The number of charging stations for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly in Flanders. This year, 9,000 public charging stations have already been installed. And there are now three times more fast chargers than a year ago.
At the end of June, electric vehicles in Flanders could go to 753 charging points of at least 150 kilowatts. A year earlier there were 288, almost three times less. This is evident from figures from the Dutch charging data company Eco Movement, which De Tijd reports.
According to the same figures, the total number of public charging stations also continues to increase. Flanders now has 29,111, which is twice as many as a year ago. There are a total of 37,000 charging stations in Belgium, the majority of which are in Flanders.
Growth is now at cruising speed. In the past six months, almost 9,000 were added in Flanders. The increase is desperately needed because the number of electric cars is increasing visibly. In February, the milestone of 100,000 electrically powered cars was taken, by the end of this year that number will already double.
Our country is now one of the front runners in Europe in terms of charging infrastructure. Only in the Netherlands, Germany and France are there more public charging stations than in Belgium.
