According to the latest forecast data from meteo.gr / Athens National Observatory, a barometric low from the Western Mediterranean region is expected to move towards the Southern Adriatic during the weekend 06-07/01. The movement of this barometric low will result in the gradual change of the weather in our country mainly from the evening hours of Saturday 06/01.
In more detail, during Saturday 06/01 are expected:
- Initially, local and light rains in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
- From the evening hours of Saturday 06/01, rains and storms are expected in Ionia, Epirus, Western Sterea and Western Peloponnese, which are expected to spread quickly to the early morning hours of Sunday 07/01 to the rest of the parts outside of Crete.
- The effects in places in the west and north are likely to be strong and accompanied by hail.
- Winds will blow from the southeast in general directions with intensities up to 7-8 Beaufort.
On Sunday 07/01 are expected:
- Rains and storms in Western and Northern Greece and in places in the islands of the Eastern Aegean. In the remaining sections there is a possibility of temporary and local rains.
- Snowfall is expected to occur in the western continental mountainous sections above 1500 meters.
- The winds will blow from southwest general directions with intensities up to 7-8 Beaufort with gradual weakening from the evening hours.
On Monday, the rains are expected to persist mainly in Western and North-Eastern Greece as well as in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, while from the afternoon hours a gradual drop in temperature is expected in Northern Greece.
According to the categorization of the rainfall episode (Regional Precipitation Index), which is applied by the Meteo unit of the National Observatory of Athens, the rainfall episode is classified as Category 4 (Very Important).
