Her breakthrough worldwide came in 2008 with “Mercy”. Duffy was at the height of her career, but only three years later, the then 26-year-old dived. The singer, who is actually called Aimee Ann Duffy, was swallowed up by the earth.
“Many of you are wondering what happened to me”
Now, nine years later, Duffy sends an emotional post to her fans explaining why she had withdrawn from the public eye. The now 35-year-old begins to tell her story in a black and white picture of herself.
“You can’t imagine how many times I’ve thought about writing this,” she begins her post. “Many of you are wondering what happened to me, where I went and why.” In her open post on Instagram, the musician explains that she was raped, drugged and detained for several days.
“It was so good to finally be able to talk about it”
She had to overcome this fate. She could not process her pain with her voice because she did not want the world to see her sadness in her eyes, explains the singer. She couldn’t sing from her broken heart.
In the meantime, she was fine again. It took a long time to recover from it, but now the sun is shining in her heart again. “I told a journalist everything last summer, it was so good to finally be able to talk about it,” reveals Duffy. In the next few weeks she will publish the interview, hoping to answer some questions.
