Buying a used car is a smart move when it comes to finding a car at an affordable price. But not all used cars are a good investment, and some are even capable of pulling out of the new owner’s pocket amounts comparable to their price on the secondary market.
Experts from the American publication GOBankingRates have compiled a list of cars that are best avoided in the secondary market. They are considered one of the most unreliable.
Fiat 500
Used Fiats are not at all suitable for long-term trouble-free operation. In the USA, for example, such cars were even given an unflattering abbreviation (Fiat – Fix it Again, Tony or “fix it again, Tony”).
Experts call the “500th”, produced from 2012 to 2016, the worst choice. They will almost certainly have clutch problems, and will also have to fix other smaller but persistent problems.
Ford Escape
Most buyers, seeing this car in the list of offers, scroll further and for good reason. Many of these Fords have a reputation for frequent transmission problems, as well as vibration of unknown origins and jerking while driving.
But the owners of such crossovers complain not only about this, but also about their terrible suspension, which is prone to constant failure of any parts.
Volkswagen Eos
Even after Volkswagen discontinued the model in 2015, it is still considered one of the worst convertibles to buy.
The list of complaints against it includes various mechanical failures, including failure of the power windows and convertible top mechanism, as well as suspension problems.
Toyota Camry
Even though this Toyota model is very reliable, the US doesn’t think so. Local experts say older Camrys require high repair costs and suffer from transmission and brake problems, as well as high fuel consumption.
As an alternative to them in the secondary market, they name the more reliable and budget-friendly Honda Civic and Mazda3.
Chrysler 200
One of Chrysler’s most reliable vehicles is suffering from electrical problems that cause problems with the vehicle’s electrical network. In addition, such cars are susceptible to malfunctions with their transmissions, as well as failure of speedometers.
BMW
This list is locked not just by one car, but by an entire brand. In the USA they are sure that not a single BMW is worth buying used. This is due, first of all, to their terrible reliability (literally “problem upon problem”), as well as the high cost of maintenance and repair.
