Rama Kanawati’s Reading Session at Sharjah Book Fair: “I See” Book Discussion and Children’s Experience with “Kalimat Collection” Pavilion

In a reading session that discussed her book “I See,” which targeted children aged 6 and 9 years, Syrian writer Rama Kanawati touched on the experience of children visiting the “Kalimat Collection” pavilion at the Sharjah International Book Fair.

Rama Kanawati’s voice attracted many of the exhibition’s children in the halls of Hall 4, to hear her story, which revolves around the beautiful child Zaid, and his and his family being forced to flee, after a war broke out in their country, and the bombing affected everything, to the point that it approached their neighborhood, which forced them to leave, Leaving everything behind, except for the doll, which Zaid kept reassuring the whole way not to be afraid, that they would return home soon, and that the war would end.

Regarding the story and the reasons for choosing it, Kanawati said: “I published three stories with Kalimat Group, and during the exhibition’s activities I read two stories, namely (My Family is the World), which dealt with the subject of children residing in shelters and orphanages. There are few stories that address them, and they have the right to write for them.” And about them, and the second story (You See), which reveals to everyone the ugliness of wars and what they can cause to children, but in the end it confirms to them that hope still exists.”
