Raja Malaysia Asks Muhyiddin Yassin To Accelerate Voting For Trust Motion – FAJAR

FAJAR.CO.ID, PUTRA JAYA — Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin only has a week to gather support. Malaysia’s King Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah asked for an accelerated vote of confidence motion.

The plan is that the motion will only be carried out on September 6 at the opening of a new session of parliament. The motion will be valid evidence whether Muhyiddin still has majority support in parliament or not. To stay in office, he needs 111 votes in the Lower House.

“The PM was asked to hold an early vote. Proposed August 18th,” one official told The Straits Times. It is not known who proposed that date.

Muhyiddin on Wednesday (11/8) met the king. It is not yet known whether he will fulfill the order of the 16th Malaysian Yang di-Pertuan Agong. What is clear is that after the meeting, Muhyiddin immediately held a meeting with the leaders of the National Association (PN) coalition in his office. The meeting allegedly discussed the king’s request. Muhyiddin only returned to his residence after the meeting at 19.45. However, there has been no explanation regarding the results of the meeting.

A source working at the State Palace revealed that the king did not explicitly ask Muhyiddin to step down because he had lost majority support. However, Sultan Abdullah alluded to article 43 paragraph 4. The article emphasized that if the PM no longer won the trust of the majority of members of parliament, the PM would submit his resignation from the cabinet. There are withdrawal exceptions. That is, if the king orders the dissolution of parliament.
