Tropical Storm Pilar moved away from Guatemala and no longer represented a “direct or indirect” danger to the country; However, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh), The rains and cold will persist for the next few hours, so they make some recommendations.

Guatemalan authorities reported that Tropical Storm Pilar moved southwest of Chiapas, Mexico, and that as it passed through Guatemala it did not cause damage.

The storm caused copious rains in several regions of Guatemala and forced, last Wednesday, the suspension of cultural activities within the framework of All Saints’ Day. such as the giant kite festivals of Sumpango and Santiago Sacatepéquez.

Last Thursday night, Insivumeh reported that Tropical Storm Pilar continued to move away from Guatemala and that during the afternoon of the same Thursday “it passed into our Pre-Warning zone and has currently left our monitoring zones.” Therefore, it no longer represents a direct or indirect danger for Guatemala and its surveillance is ended.”

However, this Friday, November 3, the Insivumeh detailed that “due to the influence of cold front number 2 of the 2023-2024 season, abundant cloudiness persists from the Caribbean Sea, so cloudiness with drizzle or intermittent rain will continue. during the period, mainly in the North, Caribbean, Northern Transversal Strip and Bocacosta regions.”

The authorities do not rule out that there “scattered drizzles” over the rest of the country.

He adds that the high pressure system that moves the cold front will continue “promoting accelerated north wind in the Central Altiplano and Eastern Valleys, in addition to low temperatures in the highest places in the country.”

“It is recommended to maintain the necessary precautions in the event of expected rains, since they could cause sudden flooding of rivers, floods, mass movements or damage to the country’s road network and infrastructure, as well as keeping warm during the night and early morning,” says the Insivumeh bulletin.
