Rain, sleet and snow – here the low pressures are in line

– It is a bit complicated, says on-duty meteorologist Olav Krogsæter in StormGeo, when TV 2 asks him to explain the weekly weather.

– Or, in northern Norway it is relatively simple. There will be snow on the Finnmark coast and generally a little cold wind. Apart from that, the weather will be nice and wintery, he says.

In southern Norway, the story is different. The mild weather continues while the low pressures are in line.

– In the southern half, the weather will be very changeable with a good deal of precipitation and new low pressures almost daily, says Krogsæter.

A few days break

On Monday, a precipitation area hangs over the south and east of Norway. The meteorologist, who is himself from the west, is not sorry about that.

– In Western Norway, we have had low pressure on low pressure since Christmas in space, so then it can be good with a few days break, says Krogsæter.

There will mostly be stays in Western Norway and in Møre og Romsdal. In Trøndelag, there are stays in the inner areas, while there may be snow in the outer areas.

In northern Norway, there are snow showers in the coastal areas.

– In Finnmark there will be strong winds and snow showers, so it is reasonably fresh weather to put it that way, says the meteorologist.

Night to Monday, the degree dropped to a full 30 minus on the Finnmarksvidda.

A series of danger warnings

The week also starts abruptly with a number of danger warnings.

In Eastern Norway, a lot of precipitation is expected on Monday. Locally there can be up to 25 centimeters of snow away from the coast and a little up in the heights.

In Oslo, precipitation comes as rain instead, and Vegtrafikksentralen warns of the danger of aquaplaning.

In parts of Viken, precipitation and melting snow pose a risk of flooding.

For the coastal and fjord areas in Finnmark, a danger warning has been issued for snowdrifts. In large parts of the country, there are also warnings of moderate and significant avalanche danger.

Rain, sleet and snow

On Tuesday, the low pressure continues into Sweden.

– Then there will be a new low pressure over Rogaland, Agder and Telemark. There will be sleet and rain on the coast and sleet and snow inland. There will also be an increase in wind in large parts of southern Norway, says Krogsæter.

In Nordland, sour north winds and sleet have been reported on the coast.

– The best weather on Tuesday will be found in inner Troms and inner Finnmark, he says.

On Wednesday it will be nice and cold in northern Norway, but a little sour wind in the coastal areas, according to Krogsæter.

In southern Norway, the day is marked by another low pressure.

– It is weaker, but will probably give some precipitation in Western Norway and the occasional sleet or snowstorm in Eastern Norway.

There will also be periods of stay.

Pretty much rainfall

On Thursday, the stay weather in the north continues with some wind. The same applies to Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal.

– In the southernmost parts of the country there is another new low pressure. There will be an easterly gale and rain along the coast, while there will be sleet and snow in the inner areas, says Krogsæter.

New low pressure on Friday means a new round of easterly winds and rain on the coast in southern Norway. There will be sleet and snow in Indre Agder, Telemark and in Eastern Norway up to Lake Mjøsa.

– The low pressure on Friday can give quite a lot of precipitation. It will probably come as snow a little into the country, he says.

In northern Norway on Friday there will be some snow showers, but otherwise quite nice and cold weather also towards the end of the week.

– Happy to refill

In summary, the meteorologist believes that the worst weather is coming to Sørlandet this week, especially in Agder and Telemark.

However, the fact that the precipitation comes as snow a little into the country can be good news for the ski resorts.

– They are probably happy that the low pressures give a little refill of snow, says Krogsæter.

Northern Norway and Central Norway are weather winners and generally get a lot of good weather.

– They get most stay-at-home weather the next few days and very little to no precipitation, he says.

In large parts of southern Norway, the mild weather will continue.

– You have to go into the inner regions or up into the heights to get freezing temperatures. There it can stay a few degrees below zero, says Krogsæter.

In Indre Troms and Finnmark it is not mild at all. There, the temperatures can be minus 25 degrees on a day of stay.
