Rain forecast for Thursday in San Diego and Tijuana – Telemundo San Diego (20)

SAN DIEGO- The region will see widespread rain and snow in the mountains Thursday as a slow rain, late winter storm continues to cover the region.

Many parts of the county saw showers overnight and early Thursday, a continuation of the storm system that brought scattered showers overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Ana Cristina Sánchez, a meteorologist at TELEMUNDO 20, said that temperatures will continue to be quite frigid the first part of the day with snow in the mountains.

In Tijuana, 13 ° C is expected and in Tecate, up to 9 ° C, the roads heading east will have snow. Precipitation from this late-season winter storm could help with the lack of rain during the mostly dry winter.

According to meteorologists, there is the possibility of hail and thunderstorms, and there is a beach hazard statement in effect for possible lightning strikes over open waters until Thursday.

Scattered rains are forecast to last until Friday morning as the atmosphere remains “unstable” and does not dry out completely until the weekend.

WINTER STORM IN THE MOUNTAINS AND HAZARD ON THE ROADS WARNING

This week’s storm is bringing substantial snowfall to the San Diego Mountains and south of the border.

According to Civil Protection, derived from the snowfall that fell during the early morning hours, the Tijuana – Mexicali highway has been closed in the Hongo – Rumorosa section. The free road that had also been closed during the early morning has already been reopened. However, the population is asked to avoid road travel if possible during current weather conditions.

The National Weather Service said a winter storm warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday for all mountainous areas in San Diego County with snow levels around 3,500 feet.

The NWS said that in addition to the heavy snowfall already occurring in the mountains, additional snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are expected, with localized amounts of up to 12 inches, on Thursday.

The NWS said that as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, Palomar Mountain had received 5.5 inches of snow. Lake Arrowhead had risen 10 inches.

During Wednesday’s storm, Caltrans announced that all vehicles traveling on State Route 79 from Cuyamaca Road to Julian and those traveling on State Route 78 from Banner Grande to east Wynola Road would be required to wear snow chains. on your tires.

For updates on road conditions, drivers can call Caltrans Highway Information Service at (800) 427-7623.

Due to the travel difficulty created by the storm and in the interest of public safety, school officials in the County of Warner and the Warner Unified School District said that all students would participate in distance learning on Thursday. However, the Julian High School District announced that classes would be canceled on Thursday.

Although it could continue to snow until Friday morning, the weekend would be dry.
