Railways beat ‘ticket lottery’: 31 crore tickets cancelled, revenue 6,297 crore!- Indian Railways | Ticket Cancellation | Train Journey | Passenger Reservation System | IRCTC

New Delhi: Indian Railways has reaped crores not only when passengers buy tickets but also when they cancel. Between 2019 and 2022, more than 31 crore tickets were cancelled, generating a revenue of Rs 6,297 crore. 4.31 crore daily average gain. 32% increase in revenue in last 2 years. During 2019-22, 9.03 crore people did not cancel their waiting list tickets. 4,107 crores was obtained through this.

By booking 162 crore tickets between 2019 and 2022, the Railways earned Rs 1.33 lakh crore. In a RTI reply to the national media News18, the Railways said that more than 31 crore tickets were canceled between 2019 and 2022. E-Ticket and ticket issued over the counter through Passenger Reservation System have been cancelled.

Train tickets are booked online through IRCTC’s e-ticket platform. In 2021-22, Railways got Rs 694.08 crore through cancellation of tickets. 604.40 crore has been received in the financial year 2022-23 (up to December), Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated in Parliament.

The fee for booking an AC class ticket is Rs 30 through net banking and Rs 20 through UPI. The fee for non-AC tickets is Rs 15 and Rs 10 respectively. Railways has the capacity to book 25,000 tickets per minute. 2.25 lakhs per minute ticket booking through reforms. It is currently able to respond to 40,000 queries per minute. The Minister stated that raising this to four lakhs is also under consideration.
