Railway – Freiburg im Breisgau – Renewal of the Black Forest Railway continues – Economy

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Deutsche Bahn is continuing the renewal of the Black Forest Railway, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Germany. From late Sunday evening to November 26th, the section between Hornberg and St. Georgen will be closed again, as the railway announced on Thursday. Between Hornberg and Triberg (Schwarzwald-Baar district) rock slopes are also secured or work is carried out in tunnels.

Passengers have to be prepared for a bus service between Hausach and St. Georgen. “The trains of the DB Regio from the direction of Offenburg start and end in Hausach station; from the direction of Immendingen they start and end in the station St. Georgen,” reported the railway. The trains from the operator SWEG coming from Offenburg run to Hornberg.

Deutsche Bahn had already started the renewal of the route around six months ago – the budget is around 47 million euros. The construction project is considered to be one of the largest in the country. Around 60 kilometers of track, 63,000 sleepers and 100,000 tons of ballast will be moved.

The original Black Forest Railway was built between Offenburg and Villingen between 1865 and 1873. The mountain railway is 38 kilometers long between Hausach and St. Georgen, runs through 37 tunnels and overcomes 591 meters of altitude.
