The RMV examines the costs and benefits of a regional tangent east. The rail link is intended to move commuters from cars to trains to change trains.

The plans for a Regionaltangente Ost (RTO), which runs east of Frankfurt, continue. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) wants to create a feasibility study and have the costs and benefits calculated. This was announced by the Frankfurt magistrate.

T he RMV worked with the Wetteraukreis and the Main-Kinzig-Kreis, it was said. The city of Frankfurt plans to contribute to the cost of the study. A cooperation agreement should regulate the cooperation.

A possible core route would be a route from Bad Vilbel via Maintal-Bischofsheim, Offenbach, Sachsenhausen, Airport (Terminal 3), Zeppelinheim to Mörfelden-Walldorf.

The RMV also advocates a rail ring around Frankfurt, which in addition to the regional tangent west also includes a south tangent and an east tangent. Such a ring would not only relieve the Frankfurt central station, but also enable fast connections between Frankfurt Airport and Offenbach, it said.

In addition, the RMV supports a feasibility study that examines an extension of the tram from Frankfurt to Offenbach. According to the information, this could lead to Offenbach Central Station. The regional group of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) welcomed the idea of connecting the main train station in Offenbach to the tram network and also called for a rail ring around Frankfurt.
