Radolfzell: A flourish for blood donation

Blood donors were able to donate the vital juice under completely new conditions on Friday: the two sports clubs FC Radolfzell and HSC Radolfzell organized a blood donation appointment in the Untersee sports hall, which was accompanied by various carnival music groups. Among other things, the woodcutters’ music of Narrizella, the frog band and the fools’ music played on the grandstand of the hall, while down on the playing area the blood donors had their blood drawn by the medical staff.

180 blood donors come

A total of 180 people had their blood drawn on Friday. The process ran smoothly thanks to a total of 32 helpers from the two sports clubs and the ten medical employees of the DRK Villingen-Schwenningen. The registration took place online beforehand, so that there were practically no waiting times. A complete process from on-site registration, a hepatitis test, the actual blood donation and the subsequent rest period took just 35 minutes, as Daniel Schnell from the DRK let know.

Blood donation appointments during carnival are a new facility in south-west Germany that seems to be establishing itself. “It works very well and we will offer the appointment again next year,” said the DRK representative. The positive balance is also shared in the two Radolfzeller sports clubs. After the blood donation appointment was offered for the first time last year and was already very successful there, more blood donors were expected this year and all 180 possible appointments could be booked beforehand.

Musicians roll up their sleeves

In addition, the social commitment ensures closer cohesion in the clubs. “It’s great to be able to do something together outside of sport,” said Jonas Haller from HSC Radolfzell. Some musicians from the various fools’ bands also rolled up their sleeves and had half a liter of blood drawn from them.
