Apolline de Malherbe will take the reins of the morning of RMC, replacing Jean-Jacques Bourdin. “A very big challenge”, she admits.
What made you want to present the morning of RMC ?
When you love your job as a journalist, a morning show is the most complete, the strongest! Every morning, I will be a host, interviewer, sometimes reporter, leaving the studios to meet the French… I don’t like being locked in a box!
The challenge is twofold, to make Bourdin forget and to convince the rather masculine listeners of the station …
I hope not to forget Jean-Jacques Bourdin, who also keeps his political interview of 8:30! I replaced it eight weeks a year since 2013. The listeners know me… The fact is that I am the only woman at the head of a morning in France. It makes me all the more happy that the radio that shows the way is RMC, which, in fact, is rather cataloged as a radio of men …
What tone will you adopt to broaden the audience?
I come as a mother of a family who lives the problems of her time. I want to accompany listeners with kindness, rigor. I would like them to say “I can count on Apolline.” At the same time to wake me up, to give me energy, information, a smile. This morning news will provide most of the information every half hour and its five guests will be able to speak on the same topic, in the event of major news. The listeners will remain extremely present to testify. And in a new meeting, at 8:10 am, they will directly address the guests.
This direct link with the public can be sporty …
I like nothing so much as the direct. I expect listeners to surprise me, push me around, and will not hesitate to confront them with their contradictions. One of the things that I like about RMC, is that it’s a radio station where we are very cash. Jean-Jacques Bourdin is famous for saying what he thinks. I also feel totally free.
Admit, you wouldn’t have liked to keep the political interview?
Everything in its time ! The morning of RMC, it’s two and a half hours on the air! The challenge is already very big!
