Radio France supports canceled festivals and French musicians with a reinforced presence of musical events on the air

Music everywhere: Radio France announced on Wednesday a plan to support the French music sector and in particular the canceled festivals. From Monday, every evening from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Le Printemps de Bourges will take control of France Inter with the best moments of previous editions and an evening of “Imaginary Spring” on Friday, with a confined concert by Izia and a DJ set by Rone.

Mouv will also offer special rap evenings on Wednesday and Thursday. “We will be even more present than we would have been if the festival had taken place,” said AFP. Didier Varrod, musical director of the Radio France branches.

The summer will be very musical: Inter should offer similar arrangements for the Eurockéennes in Belfort, the Francofolies in La Rochelle or the Parisian Fnac Live. France Musique will do the same with the Norman festival “Jazz sous les pommiers” from May 15 to 23 and negotiate for foreign festivals like Verbier, in Switzerland.

While some Radio France programs are coming back live, music is more present on the air (+ 25% over the last week), in the evening for example on France Bleu or in more boxes within France Inter’s programs. New products, whose launch had been suspended, will also reappear in Fip’s playlists.

The idea is to “consolidate the share of French-speaking music”, which is compulsory on the radio, but also to “increase the share of French production” so that copyright partially compensates for cancellations of concerts and festivals, underlines Didier Varrod.

“The entire industry is weakened and income from music will dry up,” warns Mr. Music from Radio France. “It is the role of the public service to ensure continuity. 2020 cannot be a cultural and musical dead year ”. Spots will promote this initiative on the air with the keyword # RadioFranceAvecLaScèneFrançaise.

Radio France is also watching after the end of the confinement, scheduled to be progressive from May 11. Concerts could be organized, surely behind closed doors and respecting safety distances, says Didier Varrod. A very special Music Festival is also being discussed with France Télévisions and the Belgian, Swiss and Canadian public service media.
