“Radeon RX 7900 XTX counter to Geforce RTX 4080”

With the Geforce RTX 4090 performance monster, Nvidia shows that the next-generation graphics card takes a real step forward in terms of performance over its predecessors, a theme that AMD also seems to follow with the Radeon RX 7000 family. this week the first products of the latter series were presented, where the RDNA 3 architecture is accompanied by both chiplet-design and high energy efficiency.

Among AMD’s presentation images, it was shown that the performance of the flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX is up to 1.7 times that of the current worst Radeon RX 6950 XT. The exact level varies from game to game, but it’s clear it’s not enough to knock the Geforce RTX 4090 off the throne in the top performance segment. At the time of presentation, however, AMD did not show any direct comparison with the archrival’s products, but i conversation with PCWorld AMD’s Frank Azor now clears up the question marks.

Why didn’t we see Radeon 7000 against Nvidia, what’s up? You are scared? Now people’s imaginations are wandering wildly. What does that mean, why no Nvidia in your comparison?

So, Nvidia hasn’t sent me a 4080 yet, so I’m waiting for it before I can make comparisons. […] This card is designed to go against the 4080 and we don’t have the 4080 reference numbers yet. I think we’ll see them in a few weeks. So this is the main reason you haven’t seen any Nvidia comparisons, plus, we’re not in the business of offering them free marketing and advertising. […] Realistically, we don’t know exactly how the 4080 will perform, but how we’re doing right now, we’re confident and comfortable that we’ll make them sweat.

The name Radeon RX 7900 XTX and its role as the flagship of the graphics card family suggest that it is AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s flagship model, but Frank Azor makes it clear that this is not the case. With the RX 7900 XTX, the company is aiming for the next Geforce RTX 4080, which will arrive on the market only on November 16. Comparisons with the RTX 4000 series are therefore lacking because the designated opponent cannot yet be tested, but also because AMD does not want to indulge in free advertising.

Azor further explains that, despite the still unclear performance of the Geforce RTX 4080, they feel comfortable in the fact that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX will make Nvidia sweat. It’s not just about how many frames the upcoming product can pump into games, it’s also about the price. At $ 999 as a target price, the RX 7900 XTX is far from cheap, but the price of the RTX 4080 is $ 200 more.
