Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan Criticizes Double Standards in Western Media’s Coverage of the Israeli-Gaza War

During the CNN program “Amanpour & Company” on Tuesday, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, who is of Palestinian origin, posed up in an interview with CNN veteran Christiane Amanpour.

During the interview, the Queen came out strongly against what she described as “double standards” in the Western media’s coverage of the war between Israel and Gaza.

– It has been very disappointing to see the double standards in the world today. “Seeing the strong condemnation of what happened on October 7, but very little condemnation of what is happening today,” the queen said over a video call from Amman, Jordan.

Warned the daughter-in-law: – Took her aside

The Queen further wonders why an immediate ceasefire is not called for, and why, in her view, the narrative is always skewed in Israel’s favour.

– Western media and decision-makers are quick to retell the Israeli narrative. When Israel attacks, Palestinians “die”, but when Israelis die, they are brutally killed, she says.

Although the 53-year-old queen has long been a champion of the rights of the Palestinian people, the queen went unusually hard, which is rarely seen among royals.

Interrupts the Queen

Queen Rania called, among other things, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza “slaughter on a large scale”. She also criticized Joe Biden for his statement after the October 7 attack on Israel.

– When the president of the United States says that he has seen evidence that children have been beheaded, then retracts it because the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) states that there is no evidence for it, that is confirmation bias, she says.

Shown “horror film”: – Shocked

Furthermore, the Queen addresses Christiane Amanpour and CNN directly and criticizes a CNN case with a headline about Israeli children who were found slaughtered in a kibbutz.

– When you read through the case, there is no verification of the information. My question is whether you would have published such a damning and at the same time unverified claim from Palestine, says the Queen before the presenter Amanpour interrupts:

– Queen Rania, I have to stop you there, because pictures have been shown from the Israeli authorities and our journalists have been there. I’m not talking about beheadings, I’m talking about baby bodies full of bullets, says Amanpour.

The presenter then quickly tries to change the subject.

– The silence is deafening

Further in the interview, the queen talks about the Arab world’s reaction to the many airstrikes against Gaza in recent weeks. The Queen says that many have a feeling that the Western world is “complicit” in the mass death of civilians.

– We are told that it is wrong to shoot and kill a family at close range, but it is ok to bomb them to death, says Queen Rania and adds:

– This is the first time in modern history that there is such great human suffering, and the world does not even demand a ceasefire. The silence is deafening.

In the interview, Amanpour warns the Queen that she “will receive a lot of criticism from Israel and their supporters” for calling Israel an apartheid state.

Warns Israel

– Let me just emphasize that apartheid was not a term given by Arab countries, but by Israelis and international human rights organisations. This is a 75-year-old story of overwhelming death and displacement of the Palestinian people, says the Queen, adding:

– There is a great fixation on Hamas now, because of what has happened in recent weeks. But this is a problem that goes far beyond Hamas, and will continue after Hamas. This is a fight for freedom and justice.
