QRIS Fees: Small Traders in Jakarta Respond to the 0.3% Charge

Jakarta

Payment Service Provider (PJP) Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS) starting July 1, 2023 will be charged a fee of 0.3%. Previously, the QRIS Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) fee for micro businesses was not collected, alias 0%.

This also elicited various responses from small traders in the field. One of the sellers of fried chicken named Agung, admitted that there was no problem with being charged a fee if the amount was only 0.3%.

“There’s no problem because QRIS makes it easier, has more benefits,” Agung said when met detikcom at his kiosk in the Kebayoran Lama area, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/7/2023).

Agung himself said that he had only been using QRIS for about half a year. According to him, so far QRIS is the easiest because 1 QR code can be used for all types of payments.

“Because this covers all payments right. In the past, when I used DANA, he didn’t cover everything. So DANA is over there, this one over there. Meanwhile, if QRIS is one lane, Shopee can, Gojek can, BCA can be one,” he explained.

In the same vein, Susi, a meatball seller in the same area, also admitted that she did not mind. Provided that the imposition of fees is accompanied by an increase in the quality of service to traders.

“It doesn’t feel like the imposition of a fee (if it’s only 0.3%), that’s fine,” he said.

With the imposition of fees on the QRIS service, Susi ensures that traders do not necessarily increase the selling price. If that’s the case, he’s worried his sales will be low.

“It’s not (raising prices). If that’s the case, my sales will be less. If you charge that much, it’s okay, after all, the service also helps, right,” he added.

For information, MDR is a fee charged to traders by banks. In this case, merchants may not charge back consumers or buyers in accordance with Article 52 paragraph 1 PBI 23/6/PBI/2021 Concerning Payment Service Providers (PJP): “Goods and/or Service Providers are prohibited from charging additional fees (surcharges) to Service Users. for the fees charged by the PJP to the Goods and/or Services Provider”.
