Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi warned on Tuesday that the worst is yet to come for Europe in terms of the region’s oil and natural gas shortages.
Kābi explained at the Qatar Economic Forum that Europe was able to avoid significant problems in the previous months thanks to the warm weather.
“Mankind and Europe were saved this year only by a warm winter and a slowdown in economic growth,” Kābi said. “If economic growth starts to accelerate again in 2024, and normal weather will be observed in winter, then, in my opinion, the worst is yet to come.”
Kābi calls on Europe to negotiate with oil and natural gas companies in order to find a reasonable solution to the upcoming problems.
Russia’s launch of a full-scale war in Ukraine caused an energy crisis, and Europe was able to avoid serious problems last winter thanks to a warmer-than-expected winter, analysts say.
