Qatari Sheikh Jassim’s Acquisition of Manchester United Sends Shares Soaring

Manchester United shares rose 15 percent in pre-open trading today, Tuesday, after a report indicated that Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is likely to succeed in acquiring the English Premier League giant club.
The Qatari newspaper Al-Watan said on its Twitter account, quoting press reports, “The success of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jassim’s acquisition of Manchester United … and the announcement of the deal soon.”

Manchester United declined to respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The British Daily Mail newspaper said a few days ago that Sheikh Jassim made a “fifth and final” offer of more than five billion pounds ($6.28 billion) after it was reported that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, founder of giant Ineos, made a larger offer than before.

The Glazer family, American owners of United, announced their intention to sell in November.
It was reported that the Glazers were looking to obtain six billion pounds ($ 7.5 billion) for the sale, which if it happened would represent a world record for the sale of any sports institution, but it appears that no offer has reached this value.
