Putin withdraws Middle Eastern countries from the US sphere of influence – 2024-03-30 14:17:11

/ world today news/ Vladimir Putin’s meetings with the leaders of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran show his desire to create a continental alliance to overcome crisis situations without the participation of the West.

After China, Putin visits countries of the Persian Gulf

Russian President Vladimir Putin, although the visit was of a working nature, was beautifully and symbolically welcomed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE): in the sky, American F-16s “painted the Russian tricolor with the inversion traces.

A meeting has already been held with the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Immediately afterwards, Putin moved to Saudi Arabia, where he will meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud. Russia and Saudi Arabia are coordinating their actions to cut oil production, which helps keep the oil market from becoming volatile.

According to information from the assistant to the Russian president on international affairs Yuriy Ushakov, the Russian leader will discuss with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia (and on December 7 – Iran) their accession to BRICS.

Bilateral relations and regional issues will be discussed, including the war between Israel and Hamas and the reduction of oil production within the framework of OPEC+, as well as the situation in Syria and Yemen in the broader aspect of the stability problem in the Persian Gulf, – noted the Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov

The United Arab Emirates has become a “safe haven” for Russian capital

At the negotiations with the president of the UAE, Putin stated that the relations between Russia and the Emirates have reached an unprecedented high level. The UAE is Russia’s main trading partner in the Arab world, last year trade turnover increased by more than 67%, Putin noted.

According to him, in 2022, almost 1 million tourists from Russia visited the United Arab Emirates, a Russian school was opened, and the Russian Federation is grateful for the decision to provide land for the construction of an Orthodox church.

We can point out a few more factors that made the partnership between the Russian Federation and the UAE one of the main surprises of the two years since the start of the Special Military Operation in Ukraine:

  • The UAE became an intermediary for the Russian Federation on many issues, including prisoner exchanges with the armed forces of Ukraine, inter-church meetings, contacts with the West;

Russian “blue chips” – Gazprom, Sberbank and high-tech companies – moved to the Abu Dhabi stock exchange; Sber registers office in Abu Dhabi for “support of the investment business and implementation of projects in the direction of “Islamic finance”;

Russian citizens have significantly increased their purchases of real estate in Dubai and other emirates for housing and investment, and are also opening businesses or transferring them to the emirates.

In short, the Emirates has become a hub for circumventing financial sanctions. And unlike Turkey, the Emirates have no open conflict with the US.

Since 2022, the outflow of money from Russia to the United Arab Emirates has doubled,” said Yevgeny Shevlyakov, head of Rosfinmonitoring’s risk assessment department. “Flows of both general nature and suspicious transactions were moving there”he added.

The Emirati president, calling Putin a dear friend at the meeting, said the UAE “looks forward to look forward to continuing to work together and develop cooperation with Russia in the field of energy, infrastructure projects and leading modern technologies.”

It is time to deal with the problems of Eurasia without America

Putin’s visit to the region comes ahead of a meeting between him and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, which is scheduled to take place on December 7 in Moscow. The Palestinian situation will be discussed after consultations with Arab leaders.

Iran has influence over Israel’s enemies, the Shiite groups Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen, as well as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which attacks US bases in Iraq and Syria.

Putin remained silent three days after the start of Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7 until he commented on the event, accusing the United States of “failing” to resolve the conflict.

As Ushakov said, the goal of the Russian Federation is “to cease fire first, and then calmly proceed to settlement”. Signals of readiness for Russian mediation are coming from Israel.

Putin’s recent international meetings show Moscow’s desire to create global alliances with non-Western countries that will resolve the region’s problems in favor of Eurasia, not the United States. Raisi recently made a statement on the creation of an intercontinental alliance to support the Palestinian movement and condemn the crimes committed as a result of the occupation in the Gaza Strip.

Bloomberg reported in early December that senior defense officials from Saudi Arabia and Iran were discussing military cooperation between the two countries.

Bloomberg, in the context of Putin’s visit, said “the failure of Washington’s efforts to isolate Moscow” and noted that the Russian president’s trip to the Gulf states “serves to strengthen Russia’s influence in the Middle East.”
