A Danish intelligence official admits Putin took drugs for thyroid cancer in February 2022.
A senior Danish military intelligence official told Danish media the drug can cause a blurry vision of life and may have influenced his thinking when Putin decided to invade Ukraine.
Rumors of Putin falling ill in 2022 have been heard by several intelligence services, but experts insist that reliable evidence needs to be found.
Joakim, head of the Russia analysis group at Denmark’s National Defense Intelligence Agency, believes the “mental blackout” is a side effect of the type of hormone therapy he believes Putin was using at the time.
“It’s not something I can say with absolute certainty, but I think it influenced his decisions when he ordered Russian troops to re-invade Ukraine,” the official told Danish newspaper Berlingske.
Joakim added that this therapy may also have changed the shape of Putin’s face and “moon-shaped face” in early 2022.
