Purse cards only reach 17% of families in need in Cádiz | Radio Cádiz

Cádiz City Council denounces that wallet cards of the Junta de Andalucía have only reached 80 of the 465 families who were waiting for this money to deal with the crisis caused by the pandemic. It is just over 17 percent of requests. The data has been known in a coordination meeting between city councils, the Board and the Red Cross. The delegate of Social Affairs of Cádiz, Helena Fernández, has denounced the “collapse” suffered by this initiative and the delay with which Cadiz families are going to receive money that is designed to deal with emergency situations.

Wallet cards It was the initiative devised by the Board to attend to the most urgent needs of families in the face of the drop in income due to confinement. She even announced that it could benefit 3,294 families from Cádiz, thanks to the mediation of the Red Cross, which was the private entity in charge of processing these wallet cards with which people in need could buy clothes, food or hygiene products.

The cards tried to avoid the stigmatization of families, but city councils complained that municipal social services were not used as a means of delivering that money, which are the ones that work day by day with these neediest people in each city .

The problem has now become evident in the distribution of these cards. Only 80 of the 465 families that the City Council gathered with their respective vulnerability reports have arrived in Cádiz. And besides, the money has not arrived. It will still take two weeks, as has been alerted at that coordination meeting.

Fernández has complained about this collapse and recalls that a measure like this cannot be tackled with delays, because it was designed for urgent needs, which cannot wait.
