During the race on June 26, a woman carelessly pushed a sign with a message for her grandparents into the path of the peloton as she spun with him behind a passing television camera. German cyclist Tony Martin crashed into a sticking carton at high speed, inadvertently causing another sixty of his colleagues to fall. Some of them had to give up the Tour on the first day.

The management of the Tour de France withdrew its lawsuit against the spectator in July, but at the request of the participants, the Association of Professional Cyclists (CPA) filed a criminal complaint against her. It calls for a symbolic indemnity of one euro to draw attention to the need for greater respect for competitors from spectators.
