This result returned Chelsea to winning ways in the Premier League after losing 2-5 to West Bromwich Albion last week. With an additional three points, Thomas Tuchel’s men returned to fourth in the Premier League standings.
Chelsea have now collected 54 points from 31 matches, displacing Liverpool (52 points) who had entered the top four after beating Aston Villa 2-1. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace is ranked 13th with 38 points from 31 matches.
The course of the match
Chelsea immediately pressed from the early minutes. As a result, they had opened the scoring in the eighth minute.
Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the lead after a left-footed shot tore through Palace’s net. His shot was aimed at the bottom corner of the net and could not be anticipated by Vicente Guaita.
Shortly before Havertz scored, Guaita thwarted Christian Pulisic’s chances. He deflected a Pulisic shot that continued the bait from Mason Mount.

Winning three goals did not make Chelsea relax the pressure. Mount ended his partnership with Hudson-Odoi with a powerful gunshot that forced Guaita into a rescue.
Kurt Zouma almost added to Chelsea’s goal with a header from a corner. But this time the ball was cleared by Patrick van Aanholt, who was standing on the goal line.
Chelsea still appeared to attack at the beginning of the second half. Ben Chilwell entered the penalty box after cooperation with Mount on the left side. Chilwell then fired a shot, but it was just wide of the Palace goal.
Palace finally narrowed the gap in the 63rd minute. Jeffrey Schlupp’s bait from the left was completed by Christian Benteke with a header to beat Edouard Mendy.
Havertz had the opportunity to increase Chelsea’s lead in the 69th minute. Receiving a through ball from Pulisic, Havertz fired a shot but Guaita was able to keep out.
Goal! Pulisic restored Chelsea’s three-goal lead in the 78th minute. Reece James’ cross from the right hit Gary Cahill and was struck by Pulisic at the far post.
Another opportunity was obtained by Havertz to increase his goal coffers. He was in a good position after receiving a pass from Ziyech, but couldn’t beat Guaita from close range.
