Pugacheva explained why during the Soviet era she refused to sing in the West

Alla Pugacheva said that in the mid-80s she had the opportunity to take part in the foreign musical “Chess”, music for which was written by former members of the Swedish group ABBA – Bjorn Ulveus and Benny Andersson. As planned by the authors, the prima donna was supposed to play one of the roles – Svetlana Sergievskaya, the wife of a chess player.

“We all stood – Tim (songwriter for the production of Tim Rice -” MK “), Bjorn and Benny – and sobbed,” said Pugacheva. “I wanted to sing, but I knew that they would not let me go.”

According to her, rehearsals would take about 11 months, and this would be equated to “flight from the country”, and at home there was a family, relatives. She decided that “it’s better I will abruptly break my fate, but I will not break them.”

Now, according to the singer, she no longer considers participation in such projects.
