PSV midfielder Jerdy Schouten will return to the Dutch national team next week after a long time. He thinks that his transfer from Italian Bologna to PSV was decisive.
“I am very happy with the selection for the Dutch national team,” he told ESPN. “Is it any wonder that it took so long? That’s not up to me. Apparently I wasn’t good enough, otherwise I would have been there.”
Schouten made his debut against Wales under then national coach Louis van Gaal in June 2022, but then disappeared from view again. Everything has changed since he arrived at PSV last summer. Many eyes are on him at the Eindhoven club.
“I don’t think I have suddenly become a different player in just a few weeks,” Schouten thinks. “It just helps if everyone sees you play on Dutch television every week. I think that plays a role.”
