Ruud van Nistelrooij is having a hard time with the death of Thijs Slegers. The PSV trainer knew the press secretary of the Eindhoven team well.
Slegers died this week at the age of 46 from the effects of acute leukemia. He had been ill for a long time. Van Nistelrooij responds to the sad news at his press conference. “The death of Thijs comes in hard,” he said by Voetbal International.
“It is a hard truth and it happened very quickly. I worked with him for a long time, I got to know him very well”, the PSV trainer continues. “Thijs is a great person with a good and spirited character. He was widely supported and was a loved person.”
Van Nistelrooij also says that he is counting on ‘a worthy tribute’ on Sunday. NEC and PSV will then face each other in De Goffert. The Nijmegen supporters’ association has already made it clear that Slegers will be honored by the home fans in the twelfth minute.
