The determination of six 2021 U-20 World Cup venues claimed by PSSI was clarified by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and was called not an official decision. PSSI also gave its response.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gatot S. Dewa Broto, said that PSSI made a unilateral claim regarding the determination of six U-20 World Cup venues. Gatot said it was not an official decision from FIFA. FIFA should actually set and choose the venue.
FIFA itself has not yet decided on the venue of 10-11 candidates prepared by Indonesia. FIFA should have visited Indonesia to conduct a survey since last March, but it was not carried out due to the corona virus pandemic.
The six venues set by PSSI are the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (SUGBK), Sriwijaya Stadium, Manahan, the Starling Harupat, the Bung Tomo Stadium, and I Wayan Dipta. PSSI then wrote to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to immediately renovate the six stadiums.
Regarding Kemenpora’s rebuttal, PSSI acknowledged that the official decision would become FIFA’s authority. The matter of determining the six venues by PSSI was only a proposal.
“We have sent a letter from the Secretary General (Yunus Nusi) copy to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. If the stadium will determine FIFA. The government will only need to be notified later,” PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan told reporters on Sunday (6/29/2020).
“Because until now we have given it there, given it to us so we issued the list of six to be able to accelerate development by KemenPUPR,” he added.
There is a difference in the stadium set by PSSI compared to the list that had circulated before. Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium and Si Jalak Harupat Stadium are now included.
Even though the two stadiums were previously reserve options. Both replaced Pakansari and Mandala Krida. On the other hand, Pakansari is rumored to be immediately carrying out renovations after receiving an order from Kemenpora on 10 June.
“So we gave a letter to FIFA. We explained to PUPR that we recommend these six stadiums. After all, these six are already accommodated. Like the network, it was not never the title of an international event. It was already complete there,” said Iriawan.
“Then SUGBK. So, Sumatra 1, then Jakarta, Bandung, Central Java namely Manahan in Solo, Surabaya. Surabaya is extraordinary with its supporting stadiums. Then Bali. Bali is reasonable because the tourist areas and FIFA people are happy when visiting Bali. I don’t think there is a problem, “he said.
