Lionel Messi could get into MLS for his swan song.

According to Charlotte FC manager Miguel Angel Ramirez, Lionel Messi doesn’t need to play in MLS to make an impact in the United States. The Argentine is among the best players to grace the beautiful game but has struggled since leaving Barcelona for PSG last summer. The 34-year-old has not made it in Ligue 1 and is expected to leave this summer or next.

MLS has emerged as his next destination, with Inter Miami the favorites to host him in the US. It is widely expected that Messi will spend the remaining years of his career at the MLS team. However, Ramirez believes the Argentine doesn’t need to play in the North American league to make his mark in the United States.

Speak with Tor, the Charlotte FC manager said that Messi has already helped football to grow in the United States. He said:

“I would tell you that as an impact on society, it is not necessary for Messi to reach MLS. It’s not just the Latino community that comes to the games. Lots of Americans are coming, and more and more boys are playing football (soccer). A paradigm shift has taken place in this country. People have told me that neither basketball nor American football has achieved what soccer has achieved.”
