Paris Saint Germain extend the coach’s contract Mauricio Pochettino. He is under contract by Les Parisiens until 30 June 2023.
Pochettino’s contract extension at PSG was announced via the club’s official website. Pochettino was appointed PSG coach in January 2021. He replaced the sacked Thomas Tuchel.
The Argentinean was initially contracted by PSG until 2022 with the option of a one-year extension. This extension option was then activated by PSG to tie Pochettino until 30 June 2023.
Pochettino’s coaching staff, namely Miguel D’Agustino (first team coach), Jesus Perez (assistant manager), Toni Jimenez (goalkeeping coach) and Pochettino’s son, Sebastian Pochettino (Sport scientist) have also extended their contract to PSG until 2023. Pochettino said he was very happy to be able to continued his tenure at PSG.
“I am really very happy, for myself and also for my staff. It is very important for us to feel the trust of the club and we will do our best so that the supporters are proud of Paris Saint-Germain,” said Pochettino quoted from the official PSG website.
Pochettino’s first six months as PSG coach actually didn’t go completely smoothly. He failed to bring PSG to defend the French League title and win the Champions League. Even so, Pochettino was still able to land two trophies at the Parc des Princess, namely the Trophee des Champions and Coupe des France titles.
PSG President, Nasser Al Khelaifi confident that Pochettino will bring glory to PSG in the future. According to him, this 48-year-old coach is the most appropriate figure to gush PSG at this time.
The reason is, Pochettino already knows this club from the French capital very well. Pochettino when he was a player also played for PSG from 2001 to 2003.
“We are delighted that Mauricio has reaffirmed his commitment to the Paris Saint-Germain family. Having also captained the team 20 years ago, he understands the club’s values, ambitions and vision for the future. With Mauricio’s leadership, we are excited and confident about what will happen in the future,” said Al-Khelaifi.
