PSA-Fiat Chrysler merger: the couple will be called Stellantis

French automakers PSA and Italian-American Fiat Chrysler (FCA) have announced the name of the new car giant resulting from their merger. Its name is Stellantis.

The two partners, who are to give birth to the fourth largest automobile group in the world in volume and the third in turnover, have just taken a new step by announcing the name of their new group. They jointly specify for this purpose that the finalization of the merger project should take place in the first quarter of 2021. The new set will house under one roof several automobile brands of the two operators.

A new name which was unveiled this Wednesday July 15 by the bosses of PSA and FCA, namely Carlos Tavares and Mike Manley, to 200 executives of the two groups. In detail, Stellantis comes from the Latin verb “stello” which means “to shine with stars”. According to the two operators, “the Latin origins of the name pay homage to the rich history of the two founding companies, while the evocation of astronomy suggests the true spirit of optimism, the energy and the capacity for renewal inspiring this merger that will change the automotive industry, “said PSA and FCA.

Please note that the name Stellantis will be used exclusively at group level, as a “corporate” brand, while the names and logos of the brands existing within the two manufacturers will remain unchanged. “The process of creating the new name began shortly after the announcement of the merger agreement last December, with the support of the Publicis group,” said the two manufacturers.
