PS5 & Xbox Series X may force you to buy a new TV

It used to be that you bought a TV that had to last 10 years or more. Nowadays, technology overhauls almost every day and it is difficult to keep up with the purchase if you want to be up to date. However, the PS5 could now force some to upgrade.

Even if you may have only bought a new TV in the past two years, you can be pretty sure that it will be out of date by this year at the latest, or at best, suitable. The main reason for this is the change to the new HDMI Standard 2.1, which is being pushed harder than ever this year. And we all know that gamers always want to get the best out of their hardware – and that includes the corresponding device, i.e. the screen.

HDMI 2.1 forces you to upgrade

As far as is confirmed, the PS5 and Xbox Series X not only on native 4K and partial 8K resolution, frame rates of up to 120fps will also be possible. That is twice as much as is possible with the current consoles. But just to think about it, you should know that these benchmarks are only possible with the HDMI Standard 2.1. This has been found in some LG TVs since 2019, and Sony and other manufacturers are upgrading this year.

It is therefore assumed that the new consoles will spur the TV market somewhat. Most of them “Current” TVs will be completely acceptable and will work with the PS5 and Xbox Series X without any problems. However, the maximum will only be available with the latest TV sets. But maybe that’s exactly the impetus you need every now and then.

In addition to a higher resolution or frame rate, the new standards benefit from other advantages, such as eArc, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), HDR 10+, Dolby Vision IQ and others that are exclusively intended for HDMI 2.1.
