PS4 and Xbox One not needed – Digital Foundry journalist and former DICE employee spoke about game development for two generations of consoles

Nobody wants to make games for Jaguar’s low-power processor.

Digital Foundry journalist John Linneman revealed that many developers complain about problems creating games for the current and next generation of consoles. According to Linnemann, developers no longer want to mess with the peculiarities of the Jaguar processor installed in the Xbox One and PS4.

“Nobody wants to develop games for Jaguar’s low-power processor. I’ve talked to a fair number of developers and know that this is a painful process. Leave Xbox One and PS4 in the past, ”said Linneman.

Linnemann disagrees with the notion that launching games only on next-gen consoles is an anti-consumer decision. Linnemann recalled that before “Mario 64 was not on the Super NES and it was great.”

Former EA DICE employee Liza Shulyaeva noted that developing games for multiple devices is not as easy as it might seem.

“It’s not easy to create and certify games for a range of devices. There are compatibility issues in development kits and other tools, as well as infrastructure limitations. To support 10 platforms instead of 9, it is not enough to press a button, “said Shulyaeva
