PS3 games are starting to appear on PlayStation Store

While the Xbox boasts full backward compatibility across generations, Sony is definitely not known, and the PlayStation 5 only offers PS4 titles in addition to native games. But now there are signs that the situation may change.

Yesterday, journalist Jason Middler drew attention to an interesting phenomenon, about which he subsequently wrote an article for the magazine VGC. He saw the PS3 title in the PlayStation 5 store, and as other players found out, there were several in the end. This would not be unusual, as some are part of a PlayStation Now subscription, but that’s not all. The individual products had a price tag set, and this even applied to games that are not available at PS Now at all. Specifically, it was Dead or Alive 5, Bejeweled 3 and two games from the Prince of Persia series: The Forgotten Sands and The Two Thrones.

Everything would fit into a December article in Bloomberg magazine, where Jason Schreier mentions that Sony prepares its own Game Pass style service and backward compatibility could occur. The early arrival of the project, codenamed Spartacus, is also indicated by the fact that Sony has begun downloading gift cards for PS Now from brick-and-mortar stores.

On the other hand, we should be cautious in the meantime. Some players point out that this could be a mistake that has happened several times in the past. But so far we really have no way of knowing if this is a hint of something bigger or just an unfortunate time bug.
