With a capital of solar panels on the roof, the Slager family decided to purchase an electric sprinkler system. It could run entirely on self-generated electricity. This is an option for more and more farmers with their own solar panels. Electric irrigation with its own power is sustainable, cost-effective and reduces CO2 emissions. Certainly with current energy prices, Slager is endlessly cheaper than having to run a diesel pump. “The solar panels have already been paid off, so what will this cost me? Not very much. Yes, about half an hour of work a day.”
