ProtonVPN Joins VPN Services By Shutting Down Servers In India – IT Pro – News

Proton is also removing its servers from India after a tougher internet law was announced in the country earlier this year. Since the announcement in April, VPN services have withdrawn en masse from India, as providers do not want to store and share data with the local government.

Since this summer, Proton also offers a VPN service in addition to its email service. Agency announces indicated that servers in India can no longer be used by ProtonVPN customers. Proton therefore wants to avoid having to share customer data with the Indian government.

The new law means internet companies in India have to abide by much stricter rules. For VPN services, this means they need to log and store IP addresses, address details, email addresses, phone numbers and user activity in India. This goes directly against the policy of VPN services, which want to offer their customers more privacy.

Previously, other VPN services announced their departure from India. ExpressVPN and Surfshark announced in June that they would shut down all servers in the country. NordVPN too now he has retired. Not only do VPN services have problems with India’s strict internet policies: Twitter has already filed a lawsuit against the strict Internet law.
