The leadership of the City Council of BSP – Sofia and “LEVITSATA!” call on all members, sympathizers and citizens to clearly state their position against the nonsense with the Monument to the Soviet Army and the destruction of the memory by supporting with his presence at the protest in the Prince’s Garden at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
“Let’s gather there on the side of Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Blvd. and categorically oppose the memoryless and the rootless. Let’s not allow them to do more harm to Bulgarian history and memory,” urged the chairman of BSP – Sofia and the group of the socialists in SOS Ivan Takov.
Earlier today, he, together with the other municipal councilors from the Local Coalition group “BSP for Bulgaria” and their colleagues from “Vazrazhdane”, submitted a report to the SOS with two requests. The first is for the annulment of decision No. 168 according to protocol No. 72 of 09.03.2023 of the SOS, with which the Sofia Municipality “requires the regional manager of the Sofia region to take all necessary factual and legal actions regarding the relocation of the Monument “Monument to the Soviet Army “in the Museum of Art from the Socialist Period to the National Gallery or on other suitable state terrain outside the central part of Sofia”, and the second – to produce a local referendum in the Sofia Municipality on whether the Monument to the Soviet Army should remain in the Prince’s Garden.
“This morning at 10:00 a.m. we were supposed to hold another meeting of the talks with the representatives of the PP-DB-SS in the SOS on policies and priorities. We canceled it. Instead, with colleagues from “Vazrazhdane” we submitted a report on a referendum to preserve the Monument of the Soviet Army, said Ivan Takov. “Throughout the election campaign, we listened to high-profile requests from the PP-DB-SS to dismantle the GERB model in Sofia Municipality, and instead we are witnessing how they dismantle the memory and cultural-historical heritage of Sofia. Where are they the building permit? Where are the reconstruction and restoration projects, which must be agreed with the Ministry of Culture? Where is the safety and health plan, which must also be agreed with the Ministry of Culture? Obviously, these documents are not there. Which means that we are witnessing self-governance. We see the state carrying out illegal actions. Today we will refer all competent authorities to this self-governance”.
The chairman of the BSP – Sofia noted that once already the City Organization of the Capital Socialists repaired the Monument to the Soviet Army. “We will do it a second time, regardless of what damage today’s barbarians will inflict on it, he declared. – This is a Bulgarian monument, made by Bulgarian sculptors, made with money donated by Bulgarian citizens. To date, the estimate of the monument is over 20 million leva. What will they replace it with? With another crazy installation from “Ali Express”? Or with chemical toilets and a pavilion for sprats, with which they filled the empty space left by the blown-up mausoleum?!”.
Ivan Takov recalled that the MK group “BSP for Bulgaria” asked Mayor Terziev to make a financial and economic analysis of the state of the Capital Municipality after the long-term management of GERB. “Instead, everyone is engaged in the dismantling of the Monument to the Soviet Army. The goal is only one – to divert attention from the problems important to the city and from the failure of the state and municipal management, comments Ivan Takov. – If the state does not take matters into its own hands , does not fulfill its obligations and does not stop committing violations, we have no choice but to continue with our civil protests.”
The leader of the capital’s socialists suggested that an assembly is currently being prepared in the SOS, like the one at the national level. “Only the PP-DB and GERB can say whether there will be an elected chairman of the SOS at the meeting on Monday. Apparently, their leaders have agreed in this way to shake up the old management of the SOS, commented Ivan Takov. – May they be halal! collect and govern themselves! In this situation we will be a strong opposition. The outrages must end”.
