Apparently, the message is not to be misunderstood, on posters put up on beaches and in tourist areas in Mallorca.
“WATCH OUT FOR DANGEROUS FIRE JELLYFISH”
“CAUTION FALLING STONES”
But the posters should not warn against dangers. They will trick the tourists away, so that the locals can be there in peace.
Now the action group Caterva, which on X (Twitter) presents itself as anti-capitalist, has taken responsibility for the posters.
– With a little humor
“These days we have carried out a prosecution action against the tourist overcrowding in the beach towns in Manacor. With a bit of humour, we have put up some posters that you can see in the pictures”, writes the group on X.
For those who speak Catalan, the mother tongue of many in Mallorca, the text at the bottom of the posters makes it easy to understand their purpose:
“Open beach. Neither foreign tourists nor jellyfish”, it says in smaller print on the burning jellyfish poster.
“Get on, the danger is not landslides, but overpopulation”, says the “danger sign” about falling rocks.
– Expropriated by tourism
The local media Last minute, Catalá Corner and IB3N News lists a number of small towns on Mallorca where these and similar posters have been put up.
The usurpation of the coves is just another expression of how capitalism uses an economic activity like tourism, taken to the extreme, to dry the territory for free and to extract the maximum surplus value from the workers. pic.twitter.com/cxWdvg1rjh

According to Caterva, the “exploitation” of these small towns is just “another expression of how capitalism uses an economic activity such as tourism, taken to the extreme, to extract the territory for free and to extract maximum surplus value from the workers”.
They also believe that Mallorca’s cities and beaches have been “expropriated” by tourism.
