Protest in Timisoara, before entering the quarantine. People shouted “No quarantine” and “Freedom”

More than 100 people came out to protest on Sunday afternoon the quarantine measure of Timisoara and of the four peri-urban communes, Moşniţa Nouă, Giroc, Dumbrăviţa and Ghiroda, a decision that enters into force on Sunday night to Monday.

People started gathering in the city center, around 16.00. They came with tricolor flags and carried placards in their hands. From the beginning of the protest, they started shouting slogans such as “No quarantine”, “Freedom”, “We do not want to be led by thieves”, he reports news.ro.

Initially, the people gathered on the plateau in front of the Opera, and then they started walking, surrounding the square. Then, they all went to Timişoara City Hall to continue their protest. They announced, “We’re going after Fritz.”

Most people wore protective masks and kept their distance from each other, but there are also people who had their masks pulled under their chins or did not wear them at all.

The decision to quarantine Timisoara and the four peri-urban communes, Moşniţa Nouă, Giroc, Dumbrăviţa and Ghiroda, were taken on Saturday, after the COVID-19 infection rate increased continuously in recent weeks. The quarantine is applied for a period of 14 days.
