Woody Allen challenged on the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival 2023. About thirty people, mostly girls, crowded behind the barriers, welcomed the director’s passage on the red carpet with shouts of protest. “Rapist!” the protesters yelled as the director crossed the carpet pausing in front of the photographers’ flashes. The vigilance shortly afterwards removed the group, who as they moved away also shouted “Down with the patriarchy!”. Woody Allen probably didn’t even notice the dispute because when it happened he had just got out of the car and was talking to the staff.

The protest is linked to the allegations of sexual harassment from which the director has been fully cleared twice. In front of the group of protesters, Allen was greeted with cheers and cheers from over five hundred fans who had already been waiting for him for a couple of hours. Many young people also asked for an autograph from the famous director who, before entering the Sala Grande for the screening of his film ‘Coupe de Chance’, approached to please them. At the entrance to the room, another 300 people were waiting for the director to greet him before entering.
