Protecting Against Pneumonia: Prudential’s Vaccination Campaign Amidst Poor Air Quality in Jakarta

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Pneumonia cases are a threat amidst poor air quality in Jakarta. Pneumonia is a very dangerous disease, especially for children, and is now the main focus of attention.

Realizing this urgency, Prudential Indonesia and Prudential Syariah have started an outreach and education campaign to increase public awareness about the importance of vaccination in protecting themselves from the risk of this deadly disease.

According to the Ministry of Health’s April 2023 report, pneumonia has entered the list of 10 diseases with the highest number of cases. This disease is critical because it can trigger inflammation in the air sacs of the lungs, and the cause is often bacteria that respond to viral infections such as fever or flu.

Several other factors, including exposure to cigarette smoke, air pollution, and other environmental factors, can also trigger this disease.

“We are committed to inviting the public to always understand the importance of pneumonia vaccination in protecting themselves and their families from the threat of this disease,” said Prudential Indonesia Chief Customer and Marketing Officer Karin Zulkarnaen.

Pneumonia vaccination is not just protection, but also a concrete step to minimize the death rate from this disease. This is in line with the government’s determination to reduce the number of pneumonia cases, help people live healthier lives, and increase productivity.

Data from MercerMarshBenefit shows an increase in pneumonia cases in adults by 56.9 percent and children by 88.1 percent in the first semester of 2023 compared to the previous year.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Service also recorded an increase in the number of pneumonia cases, from 200 in early 2022 to 400 in early 2023. Prudential noted that pneumonia claims were in the top 10 most claims in August in the Jakarta area.

To support this pneumonia vaccination campaign, Prudential has collaborated with a trusted health partner, PT Pfizer Indonesia, producer of the PCV 13 vaccine. This vaccine provides immunity against 13 strains of streptococcus pneumonia bacteria which cause pneumonia in humans, and can be used for all ages.

Prudential also collaborates with PT Prodia Widyahusada, Tbk (Prodia) which provides special offers to Prudential customers and their families to vaccinate against pneumonia with the PCV 13 vaccine from Pfizer at all Prodia clinics spread across Indonesia.

By showing a valid Prudential card or policy number, customers can protect their families with the pneumonia vaccine. Prodia also offers special offers for additional examinations such as chest x-rays and healthy life panels I – IV after PCV 13 vaccination.

For Prestige by Prudential customers who meet the criteria for total annual premiums or certain coverage amounts, access to the pneumonia vaccine can even be obtained for free.

With this collaboration, Prudential strengthens its mission to help people live healthier lives, by improving services that are relevant to changing times, and providing leading protection to Indonesian families when facing difficult times.

“We are committed to making a sustainable contribution in protecting every life, for a better future,” concluded Karin.
