Prosecutor’s Unprofessionalism Delays Serial Murder Trial in Jakarta

Jakarta

Serial murder case trial with the defendant Wowon Erawan, Solihin alias Duloh, and M Dede Solehudin It was postponed five times because the prosecutor was not ready with his demands. Member of Commission III DPR Didik Mukrianto asked the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to intervene.

“For me, the behavior of the public prosecutor who lacks integrity and is unprofessional cannot be allowed. The Attorney General’s Office must immediately summon and carry out an examination,” said Didik to journalists, Tuesday (26/9/2023).

Didik said the prosecutor handling the case must be given sanctions if he is proven to be unprofessional in carrying out his duties. He said the trial should not be postponed frequently because it could harm the parties involved in the case.

“If it is proven that they have no integrity and are not professional, then there must be firmness in imposing sanctions and making replacements so that no one is harmed,” said Didik.

Didik said that public prosecutors must be professional in their work. He said that prosecutors who work unprofessionally actually harm the defendant and the victim.

“Just imagine if the public prosecutor was unprofessional and was stalling for time, including prosecuting for unsubstantial reasons, not only would it be unprofessional, but could further harm the interests of the defendant, victim and those seeking justice,” said Didik.

“The Attorney General’s Letter Number: R-95/A/SUJA/09/2021 concerning Strengthening Integrity Commitments, should be actionable. Moreover, if there are indications of mortgaging the integrity and dignity of the institution, not only will disciplinary sanctions be imposed, but they could also be punished,” he continued. .

Sahroni also urges the Attorney General to intervene

Deputy Chairman of Commission III DPR Ahmad Sahroni also asked the Attorney General’s Office to pay attention to the postponement of the trial five times because the prosecutor was not ready. He said prosecutors must be professional whatever case they handle.

“Frankly, I don’t care about the type of case, whatever case, the process must be serious and fast. And here, we, Commission III, ask for serious attention from the Attorney General’s Office to ‘gas’ this case,” said Sahroni.

Sahroni said the prosecutor was not serious so the prosecution had not been completed even though the trial was repeatedly postponed. He said the prosecutor’s actions could give rise to various assumptions.

“It seems like the local prosecutor’s office is not serious about this case. Apart from showing incompetence, this could also give rise to various kinds of assumptions from the public, it’s a case of catching a cold, intimidation, etc.,” said Sahroni.

It is known that Public Prosecutor (JPU) Omar admitted that he had not finished drafting the charges. Judge Suparna seemed confused by the prosecutor’s statement that he had not finished compiling the prosecution file.

“What are your work friends? Five times, you know. It’s been more than a month, you know. Not yet the fifth, then the sixth,” said judge Suparna at the Bekasi District Court on Monday (25/9).

“Yes, it’s serious. We’ve demanded this five times. Please be serious. This matter has already attracted the attention of the masses and there are still other matters, please take it seriously,” he added.

Omar also promised that the lawsuit file would be completed within the next week. The trial is planned to be held again on Monday, October 2 2023.

“It will be ready next week, sir, on October 2,” said Public Prosecutor Omar.
