The supervising prosecutors in the investigation into money laundering from LOT 5 on the Hemus highway have resigned

The three supervising prosecutors in the investigation into money laundering from the construction of LOT 5 on the Hemus highway made a withdrawal today, after the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office have been exchanging mutual accusations in the case for several days. The CDCOC and Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov claim that the prosecutor’s office deliberately does not want to investigate the case, and the prosecutor’s office complains of pressure. At the same time, another pre-trial proceeding is underway at the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office, during which it will be checked whether there has actually been an attempt to put pressure on investigators over prosecutors in the case.

“Given the pre-trial proceedings initiated by the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office, the colleagues believe that this would lead to additional pressure on them, which would prevent them from making decisions on the case. they will assess their validity and will assess whether there is pressure that will prevent them from continuing to lead and supervise the investigation, “Sofia City Prosecutor Iliana Kirilova and her deputy Ivo Iliev told reporters.

“We continue to believe that everything that is happening is unacceptable and is in the interest only of crime, but not for Bulgarian citizens. We call for close cooperation and interaction with all institutions and law enforcement agencies,” Iliev said.

Kirilova explained that if the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office accepts the reasons given by the supervising prosecutors and their request for recusal, the case will be randomly reassigned to other colleagues. Until the ruling of the Sofia Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, they will continue to perform their duties as supervising prosecutors.

“I want to state on my behalf and on behalf of all colleagues that we are willing to work with the structures of the Ministry of Interior, as we have worked over the years, because it is in the public interest,” said the Sofia City Prosecutor.

She also announced another change. “In view of the situation, the prosecutors state that from now on procedural and investigative actions, which are assigned to the structures of the Ministry of Interior, will be done in the offices of prosecutors, as under the Criminal Procedure Code exercise management and supervision of these pre-trial proceedings. “, Kirilova explained.

The accusations in the investigation for money laundering from the construction of LOT 5 from the Hemus highway became an occasion The Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office to come into conflict again and to exchange mutual accusations. After several press conferences on Sunday, both by the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office Pre-trial proceedings have already begun at the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office, which will check whether there was pressure.

Last week the international futsal referee Borislav Kolev was accused of laundering BGN 53 million for the construction of the Hemus highway through a network of companies and proxies. On Friday (December 10th), the Sofia City Court (SCC) sentenced him house arrest.
