Promote Seculta popular art through the Rodolfo Morales award – NSS Oaxaca

Handicrafts are a cultural expression, genuine, of high quality and great beauty, in each piece there is the story of who with their hands shaped it; For this reason, the head of the Secretariat of Cultures and Arts of Oaxaca (Seculta), Karla Villacaña Quevedo, visited the workshop “Manos que Ven” of Santa Reyna Teresita Mendoza Sánchez and José García Antonio, winner of the State Recognition of the Cultures and Arts “Rodolfo Morales”.

Oaxaca.- During the visit, Villacaña Quevedo stressed that for Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa it is important to provide society with a perspective of the economic relevance of popular art and thereby dignify the work of creators.

The secretary mentioned the importance of recognizing the talent and sensitivity embodied by artisan hands, for that reason the State Government through the Seculta promoted the State Recognition of Cultures and Arts “Rodolfo Morales”.

In this sense, he stressed that popular art has great importance, since through it the culture and tradition of the state is shown, respects raw materials and generates community through healthy practices, but above all that these pieces put into high the name of Oaxaca.

Also, he recognized that through the Seculta the artisan work is strengthened, but it also seeks that activities such as that of José García Antonio, are inherited to new generations to preserve these artisan skills.

During this visit, Villacaña Quevedo appreciated the work of the blind craftsman, ceramist and sculptor José García Antonio, originally from San Antonio Castillo Velasco, and who has been characterized by his work on clay pieces of different sizes and spectacular shapes.
