Progress and Improvements in Fire Extinguisher Safety Measures in Bangkok

Bangkok Authorities Take Action to Ensure Fire Extinguisher Safety

Bangkok, Thailand – In response to a recent incident involving a fire extinguisher explosion, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has implemented measures to ensure the safety of fire extinguishers across the city. On June 24, Governor Chatchart Sitthiphan and Deputy Governor Tawida Kamolvej discussed the progress of the incident and outlined the steps being taken to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Following the explosion on June 23, Deputy Governor Tawida confirmed that carbon dioxide fire extinguishers have been charged in all fire stations throughout Bangkok. The BMA has also temporarily halted fire drills for various agencies until the safety of all relevant equipment has been inspected. It was determined that the fire extinguisher involved in the explosion was a carbon dioxide tank, which differs from the tanks used in government agencies and communities.

To further ensure the safety of fire extinguishers, the BMA has instructed all fire stations, district offices, and community leaders to conduct joint inspections of dry chemical fire extinguishers in all communities. These inspections will identify details of service life and classify old tanks that may be at risk. Any damaged tanks will be replaced, and new tanks that are still usable will be maintained. The inspections are set to begin next week, and staff will be trained to inspect the working conditions of the tanks, including checking the pressure gauge, condition of the fire hose, and overall tank condition. If any damage is found, the district office will be notified for immediate replacement. Additionally, the BMA plans to add a channel to the Traffee Fondue system, allowing the public to report damaged fire extinguishers.

Deputy Governor Tawida also announced that future fire drills will use empty tanks without spraying. Instead, knowledge will be enhanced through video media, and participants will be provided with protective clothing during rehearsals. In schools, students will be able to follow the rehearsal on the 2nd-3rd floor of the building for safety. The BMA aims to improve all operational standards and will adopt the same standards as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

Governor Chatchart emphasized the importance of fire extinguisher safety by banning the use of fire extinguishers outside the agency. Each district has a specific training tank, and pressure resistance is checked every five years. The BMA, along with community committees and technology volunteers, will collect information on fire extinguishers in the community, including the date and time of the last inspection and service life. This information will be made available online in the form of a map for easier verification.

The BMA’s swift response to the fire extinguisher incident demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in Bangkok. By implementing these measures, they aim to prevent future accidents and maintain the highest standards of fire safety across the city.

How will the digital platform for reporting fire extinguisher safety concerns improve communication between authorities and the public?

Ce providers, installation date, and expiration dates to ensure that all fire extinguishers are serviced regularly and are within their expiration date.

The BMA has also organized training sessions for personnel responsible for fire extinguisher maintenance and usage. These sessions will educate participants on the proper handling and maintenance of fire extinguishers, as well as the correct protocols in case of a fire emergency.

In addition, the BMA is working on implementing a digital platform that will allow individuals and communities to report any issues or concerns regarding fire extinguisher safety. This platform will facilitate efficient communication between authorities and the public, ensuring that any potential problems are addressed promptly.

Governor Chatchart Sitthiphan emphasized the importance of fire safety and urged all residents to be vigilant and proactive in ensuring the proper maintenance and functioning of fire extinguishers. He also encouraged individuals to report any suspicious or faulty fire extinguishers they come across.

The recent incident has raised awareness about the importance of fire extinguisher safety in Bangkok. The prompt actions taken by the BMA demonstrate their commitment to the well-being and safety of the city’s residents. With improved regulations, inspections, and training, Bangkok authorities aim to prevent future accidents and enhance overall fire safety in the city.
