Amsterdam – The ancient vaccine against tuberculosis (BCG vaccine) is being investigated in the fight against corona. In a group of 1,600 elderly people and a group of 1,500 care workers, Radboudumc and UMC Utrecht are investigating whether the vaccine reduces the chance of an infection with Covid-19 or whether the disease progresses more mildly. We ask professor of experimental internal medicine Mihai Netea, winner of the Spinoza Prize and affiliated with Radboudumc, to explain.
