/Pogled.info/ I found out with bewilderment, and then I read that the Academic Council of my University, of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, adopted a declaration condemning the position expressed in a media interview by my colleague Prof. Darina Grigorova from the Faculty of History ?!?…
I have been a teacher for 36 years now, and before that I was a student for five years, so for almost 41 years Alma Mater has been a part of my life, of my soul, of everything that
has been valuable in my life! I have seen many things – for example, how during socialism, at the request of “labor collectives from all over the country”, my teachers, scientists and friends of the rank of Prof. Nikolay Vassilev, Academician Nikola Popov, etc., were branded, accused as “enemies of the socialist system”?!?…
Then, many years after democracy broke out, and to this day, I see and hear the speeches of some former professors of scientific communism, from the department of “Scientific
communism” from before 1989, who became political scientists and creators of
“the new truth” – they were not in the dissident movements before November 10, 1989, I have not seen them either in the “Club for the support of glasnost and perestrovestroy” or in the trade union “Support” – organizations that were a thorn in the side of the then regime ?!?…
By the way, I do not remember and I have not seen any of the members of the current Academic Council of my University in these dissident associations!?!…
Why am I sharing all this?
First of all, dear colleagues from the Academic Council, for whom I voted at the last General Assembly, let me tell you something that I have been saying constantly during these nearly 36 years of teaching my students – the main symbol-I believe of the University is FREEDOM!!! Freedom both in knowledge, teaching and relations with students, and Freedom in public appearances of the academic
person!!!
You cannot, my dear colleagues from the Academic Council, denounce a person from our, from the Academic community, for having publicly expressed his position in the media – this, dear, is already a manifestation of fascism, socialism and any other totalitarianism – in this case, neoliberalism!! ! The story of my Alma Mater, my University, is
replete with such examples, and you, my dear colleagues of the Academic Council, have dramatically entered this dark part of this history with this Declaration of yours!!!
Subsequently, my dear colleagues, yes, it is true that humanity is an invariable part of the academic ethos of my University, of the University in general, but then why don’t you denounce Prime Minister Denkov, who sends weapons to Ukraine to support the killing of people ?!? Prof. Darina Grigorova speaks, words are her position, and the other, Denkov, who is also part of the Alma Mater (shameful, if you ask me) sends weapons?!?
Well, where is the objectivity here, where is the truth here, how will people and students believe Sofia University, when there is such a terrible injustice, a terrible discrepancy in the criteria?!?…
In addition, not only I, but also many of my colleagues do not agree with the positions expressed in the media by university colleagues – the mentioned political scientists, but I accept that this is also part of the essence of the University – Freedom!!!…
And finally, but not least, my dear colleagues from the Academic Council, do not turn my University, Alma mater, into an appendage of yet another conjunctural ideological tensions and ruling political “elites”!!! Because we will become a laughing stock when the international situation radically changes, and it is already changing, the Academic Council of my University will perhaps come out with an anti-EU and anti-NATO position!!!… Or else it will return a chair ” “Scientific Communism” – know that people like me and Prof. Darina Grigorova will erupt again against this!!!…
Please, more as a courtesy than as a show of weakness, please never
don’t make this mistake again – don’t stigmatize an academic for his vacancy!!!…
