Prof. Boyan Durankev: China and the phase transition the world is facing in the coming years – 2024-03-04 17:03:12

/View.info/ /View.info/ China’s economic growth has long not been an end in itself, even though it is valuable – China’s top leaders pledged to step up fiscal support for growth last week, which raised economists’ expectations for a growth target of around 5% for the next year 2024.

But that China links growth with development can be appreciated through the goals set out in the books The Belt and Road Initiative and also in President Xi Jinping’s Governance of China (Jinping, 2017). In addition to revealing the idea of a prosperous society in all respects (pp. 73-102), it also speaks of a “Community of a Shared Future” (pp. 569-600). China is one of the countries that share the idea of a “Community of Shared Future” – since the beginning of this millennium, for the reason that our generation will decide whether human society will continue to exist in some organized form, or whether we will reach tipping points that are irreversible, and we will end together in total catastrophe through global warming. The same question applies to the growing threat of a possible war with nuclear weapons. It remains to choose one of two ways of destruction: either global scorching or nuclear winter! It is very likely that future pandemics will attack not just one country but the world as a whole. We are now in the midst of the ‘sixth extinction’, the fifth being 65 million years ago. We are in a period where internationalism is coming to the fore, and this is not only shared by China. Dealing with the pandemic, dealing with global warming: these are international problems, we must solve them together. We need a Global Green New Deal, you can’t stop global warming in the West alone, it’s sweeping the world. The pandemic also has no borders. Labor rights also have no borders. We can and must work together on this. This is the direction in which things should develop, according to China.
