Economist Associate Professor Boryana Ivanova is the new rector of the Agricultural University.
Two previous vice-rectors took part in the competition – Associate Professor Ivanova, who was the vice-rector for academic activities, and Prof. Dr. Vladislav Popov, the vice-rector for scientific and project activities. The expectations at AU were that Prof. Popov was the undisputed favorite. However, the General Assembly overthrew them.
Prof. Ivanova was elected after a runoff and won with 82 votes over her opponent, who received 75 of the votes of the members of the General Assembly. The elections are held after the term of office of the current rector Prof. Dr. Hristina Yancheva has expired and she has no right to run for a new one.
Associate Professor Dr. Boryana Ivanova graduated from the University of National and World Economy – Sofia, where she obtained bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in economics and agricultural management.
Prof. Ivanova has more than 40 publications and participates in more than 20 domestic, national and international projects. Her scientific interests are in the field of the development of rural areas, groups of producers, the possibilities of development and confirmation of the principles of bio and circular economy, food and energy security. She specializes in Germany, France, Romania and Russia. He speaks English and Russian.
